“Variety is the spice of life”

I find it often difficult to get a regular training session in while traveling but with a little preparation this time, I hope to fit in at least a run and maybe a workout.
Before traveling to the Seattle area this weekend, I went on line to search for routes near the hotel where we are staying. The site I used is: http://www.mapmyrun.com. If you haven’t discovered this website I would recommend it. Choose between an established route or add your own route. There are usually several options depending on length and difficulty.
As well, I have packed for all weather possibilities including rain gear, light weight gloves and several changes of clothes. No chance for excuses!
Most hotels also offer use of gym equipment. The hours may vary so be sure to check out the details before hand. You may not have access to a food store so include in your travel bag a water bottle and a few power type bars or gel pouches.
If you like to train while listening to music- don’t forget your ipod or similar music player. (Include power chargers).
Flexibility is the key to fitting in a run or workout. Pre-arranged meetings or planned excursions may be scheduled when you usually run so adapting to running at different times of the day may be necessary.
Above all, enjoy your time away, taking advantage of the variety in your training that travel offers.
