As race director and founder of The North Face Whistler Half Marathon, I look forward to this time of year with great anticipation. Don’t get me wrong, all 12 months of the year that are spent preparing for race weekend are exciting in their own right, but the final 3 months is truly when our team comes together to pull off amazing things for you, the athletes.
March marks the beginning of our race operations planning – this is the real nitty-gritty fun stuff, like ordering food and drink, hiring entertainment, arranging race day rental equipment, figuring out how many porta-potties are needed, recruiting volunteers, sorting out prize money, and the list goes on and on; and so does the energy and enthusiasm of our race management team.
As the sun gets higher in the sky, and the days get longer, I can feel the excitement of race weekend building. At the gym, along the village stroll, and in the grocery store I am regularly stopped by Whistler residents and asked about this years race plans – runners or not – there is something that feels oh so good when that happens.
So as your serious training begins and the anticipation builds, please know that your excitement and anticipation is shared with all of us working behind the scenes to make your running experience here in Whistler an amazing one!
